FOR A NEW BEGINNING –Bridging the gap

In the book: Democratic Youth Participation: A concept revised, is that the ideas of youth are being
marginalized and hidden in society's educational institutions, where they are not used as they should be
for the improvement of politics and society” Youth have the potential to offer a vastly untapped source of
vitality, strength, fresh ideas, innovation and innocence that could refresh politics in a whole new way.

Young people have different perspectives and a host of different ideas. By allowing them to voice their
opinion we could be opening and moving the political world forward. This is not only good for society,
but necessary for society. If the young did not engage with politics, even if it is through pressure groups,
there would be many issues with our political establishments in trying to keep policy fair and sustainable
for future generations. For example, equal rights for women required many young women to engage with
the issue at hand. Why? Because they had strong feelings for the issue at hand, and that is something that
countries should work to increase – interest and opinion on political matters.

As youth, we need to louder our voice beyond our mouth ability. We need to engage as many as we can in
every political aspect. By using our energy we can conquer the dialogue and change the society to think
inside our mind, by using our voice, we can speak and generate new ideas which can lead to positive
political impact to our society. Our voice can reach every corner of the society. We have the ability to
produce new ideas for further community development. We have every reason to engage in all aspect of
development since we are the backbone of the community development.

It is our responsibility and duty to protect our community against any internal and external conscience.
We should engage in the current process of getting new constitution since we’re the one who are and will
be affected in years to come. Constitution is the only weapon which can determine our right. Through
constitution we can participate and compete in any political position regardless our age, sex or ethnic
group. Through constitution we can determine where, what and how can we influence community
development.

My fellow youth, we have to know the current financial crisis in Africa is due to lacking skilled
personnel. My point is that we are confronted not so much with a job crisis as with a skills crisis. In spite
of the high number of jobseekers, many employers are unable to fill vacancies, because they cannot find
people with the right skills. Clearly, action is urgently needed in order to bring our skills-set up to scratch.
Education and training systems must reform and innovate, both to increase quality and to better match the
requirements of the labour market. All these can be fulfilled if we only participate fully in every aspect
concern community development.

My dear youth, next year we’re expecting to have general election, I kindly request you to participate
fully not only in voting but also compete from council, parliamentary election as well as presidential
election. It is my hope and believes that we all meet the requirement and all needed criteria. We need to
increase our voice in these institutions, we need to increase power and new ideas and we need to convince
the world that even youth can elevate poor souls from the tower of oppression to the banner of
development.

It is my hope that, among us, we need to see other Nyerere, Salim Ahmed Salim, Amina Chifupa. We
need to see people like James Mbatia among us. We need to see and hear young people with ability like
Martin Luther King, Malcolm X at their age, Abdulwaheed Sykes during TAA and TANU. We need to
have more young and talented people like Halima Mdee, John Mnyika, David Kafulila, Moses Machali
and Zito Kabwe. We need to have young people with good vision, youth who can fight for their
communities, youth who can argue, critics and reason. Youth who can protect our beautiful nation
through their abundance, ability, readiness and through their ideas.

My colleagues, opportunity is all around us. It’s challenging me, and it’s challenging you. I sincerely
hope that we, as the youth of today, will take up this challenge, and eventually realize that “Opportunity
knocks”. While there are various agencies, organizations, and policies designed to address the needs of
young people, the impacts of these efforts fall along a broad spectrum, from being generally positive to
working counter to what would be helpful to the young people who most need support. Moreover, at
times, youth needs are not seen, or for various other reasons, are left unmet.

Robert Kennedy once said "This world demands the qualities of youth: not a time of life but
a state of mind, a temper of the will, a quality of imagination, a predominance of courage
over timidity, of the appetite for adventure over the love of ease."
Also Rachel Jackson added "Our youth are not failing the system; the system is failing our
youth. Ironically, the very youth who are being treated the worst are the young people who
are going to lead us out of this nightmare."

Thank for your time and God bless you.
