Pamoja na kuwa chumvi imeendelea kuwa kiungo muhimu katika chakula cha binaadamu lakini matumizi yake yakizidi kipimo basi ni hatari kwa Afya Ya binadamu, tunatambua umuhimu wa chumvi katika kunogesha vyakula vyetu na ukitaka kujua umuhimu wa chumvi pika mboga nzuri halafu usitie chumvi!


Je miili yetu inahitaji chumvi?

Chumvi ina madini (sodium) ambayo husaidia miili yetu kuwa na maji ya kutosha-yaani siyo maji mengi kupita kiasi wala siyo kidogo kupita kiasi. Kwa hiyo tumia chumvi kidogo tu katika chakula wakati wa kupika au kula mezani.
Vilevile, kama utakula mchanganyiko wa kutosha wa vyakula, huna haja ya kuongeza chumvi unapopika au unapokula mezani.

Ni kwanini utumie chumvi kidogo tu?

Image result for saltChumvi ikizidi mwilini husababisha mrundikano wa maji mwilini. Hivyo unapokula chumvi nyingi unaweza kupata madhara kiafya. kwa mfano:
  • Shinikizo la damu mwilini kuwa kubwa kupita kiasi
  • Magonjwa ya moyo
  • Kiharusi yaani, kupooza kunakosababishwa na shinikizo la damu kuwa juu sana
  • Kuharibika kwa figo
  •  Maradhi ya mifupa
  • Saratani ya tumbo
  • kupoteza uwezo wa macho kuona

Je utumie kiasi gani cha chumvi kwa siku?

Kiasi kinachofaa kwa mujibu wa wataalamu wa Afya ni miligram 2300 sawa na kijiko kidogo cha chai kwa siku. Na kwa watu wenye shinikizo la damu wasizidishe miligramu 1500 sawa na 3/4 ya kijiko cha chai kwa siku.
Kiasi kinachofaa kwa matumizi ya chumvi kinatofautiana kutokana na Hali ya kiafya, Umri, na Kazi ya mtu. Hivyo ni bora kumuona daktari wako akushauri kiasi kinachofaa kwa afya yako binafsi.

Hayo ndiyo madhara ya kutumia chumvi nyingi.
