African woman (A REPLY….)

Image result for african woman artHere I am my son
behind the faces you see i hide
behind my weave lie the beauty to which you give praise
Lost I am
in this confusion
it is your papa my son
or is it globalization?
From his oppression they claim to liberate me
Yet they fill me with disrespect for your father
I should leave him they say
My children! With whom shall they remain?
My kitchen, in it who shall cook?
My water pot, who shall carry?
My husband who shall feed?

Black is my story like Bob Marley
But I am not sorry
The hair you long to see is black, I hide it
My skin u cry 'bleached' was black
My marriage roles are black
I did not know black is beautiful
I was told its ugly
I head of black markets, blacklisted, black and white, black bla bla
it is the colour of those that do not emit any light in the visible spectrum
They forgot to tell me it absorbs all in that range!

I heard it from you my son
Cry no more
for I have seen the beauty in that they call black
Shiny black is the beauty of my hair
Deep chocolate is the beauty of my skin they call 'black'
My eyes cry not of sorrow
Ask the stars why they keep shining
I will tell you why these eyes of mine cry

I am black and proud
I do reflect a lot of light to the world though some try not to see it
I still do
I absorb a lot of it too
